Training is tough. Virtual vs. in-person, multiple learning styles, which interactive tools to use – there are so many things to consider. Whether you have been training for a while or you’ve recently taken on the role of a trainer, you want to get off to a good start. This webinar is designed for new and experienced trainers looking for some quick tips to help plan for their next workshop. The goal is to provide you with some pointers to help you prepare, plan, and deliver a high-quality training workshop and ensure that you and your team get the most from your training time.
Dana Crosby will start our session by discussing how adults learn and her teaching experiences with the Florida School Crossing Guard Training Program. Next, Kevin Elliott will join us to talk about communication, presentation skills, and learning styles. And finally, Jason Jackman will round out the discussion with some tips on interactive training, engaging your audience, and how the adult learner differs from what you may remember from school.
You will walk away from this training with some key tips to help your next training be a success. We hope to see you there!
This webinar is provided at no cost and will award a certificate to those fully attending and completing the webinar. Professional Development Hours will be provided to those that request these during registration. A total of 1.5 PDHs can be earned for fully attending the webinar. Florida local agencies are being given first priority!
Instructor Bios:
Dana Crosby has worked as a consultant with FDOT as the state program administrator for the Florida School Crossing Guard Training Program for the past 10 years. She has worked for many more years for the educational interests of our children and grown-ups teaching middle school and adult students alike. She is a safety advocate with a passion for keeping our youngest and oldest pedestrians safe. Dana holds a Master’s in Education from the University of West Florida and undergraduate degrees from the University of Arizona.
Kevin Elliott is a Senior Marketing Specialist at Applied Research Associates. He writes strategic communication plans and manages creative outreach projects for clients including the Federal Highway Administration, the Florida Department of Transportation, the U.S. Air Force, and the National Institute for Standards and Technology, among others. He lives in Panama City, Florida, with his wife, daughter, and 12 chickens.
Jason Jackman is a Senior Research Associate with the University of South Florida’s (USF) Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR). For over 14 years, he has managed programs such as Tampa’s Safe Routes to School program, as well as other bicycle and pedestrian safety programs throughout the State of Florida. He is a safety advocate and enjoys meeting and working with community partners who share an interest in transportation safety. Mr. Jackman holds a Master of Public Administration from USF.
