The Florida LTAP Center, in partnership with the FDOT Local Agency Traffic Safety Academy (LATSA), presents this webinar series on Road Safety Fundamentals.

The training is divided into a 5-part webinar series. This webinar series is based on the FHWA publication entitled Road Safety Fundamentals, which is one of the important reference materials for the Road Safety Professional 1 and 2 Exams.

The series is intended to provide an introduction to the fundamental concepts of road safety. These concepts cover areas such as the nature of road safety issues, human behavior and the road environment, and how to identify and solve road safety problems. The focus of the webinar series will be to communicate the fundamental concepts of road safety so that the user will be equipped with a broad base of knowledge related to the field. The publication provides additional resources and exercises for those that wish to dig deeper into understanding road safety.

Part 1 of 5 – Foundations of Road Safety (8/19/2020)
In this first session we will be looking at the context of road safety, the history of road safety in America, multidisciplinary approaches to safety, and the road users that we need to consider.

Part 2 of 5 – Human Behavior and Road Safety (8/26/2020)
One of the essential elements in trying to improve road safety is understanding human behavior and recognizing that in order to improve road safety, you sometimes have to change human behavior.

Part 3 of 5 – Measuring Safety (9/2/2020)
This session will examine safety data: the importance of safety data; different types of safety data; and look at how we need to improve the quality of safety data. We all desire a truly data-driven safety program. That all begins with quality safety data.

Part 4 of 5 – Solving Safety Problems & Implementing Road Safety Efforts (9/9/2020)
In this session we will be looking at the road safety management process – both site-level safety management and system-level safety management. We will also be discussing the implementation of road safety efforts; how it is a shared responsibility, the importance of safety research, strategic communications, and the future of advancing road safety.

Part 5 of 5 – Q & A Session (9/16/2020)
This session is planned as a question and answer session to cover any questions that arise in the previous sessions that need additional information or details. It will be a highly interactive session that should be both fun and informative.

For attendees needing Professional Development Hours (PDHs), each session will offer 1.5 PDHs, for a total of 7.5 PDHs if you attend all 5 sessions.

For attendees needing AICP Certification Maintenance credits (CMs), each session will offer 1.5 CMs, for a total of 7.5 CMs if you attend all 5 sessions. (Please note, CMs are only available for this webinar series, and not other LTAP webinars at this time)

Please note – space for this webinar is limited, and Florida local agencies are being given first priority!
