A Road Safety Audit (or RSA) is defined as a formal safety performance examination of an existing or future road or intersection by an independent, multidisciplinary team. An RSA qualitatively estimates and reports on potential road safety issues and identifies opportunities for improvements in safety for all road users.

This LTAP training series will cover the FHWA Road Safety Audit Guidelines and point you to resources you can access to learn more about RSAs and the benefits of RSAs. Important things you will learn include the formal RSA process, the need for an independent team, why it needs to be multidisciplinary, and what kinds of things are often found when doing an RSA.

Session 1 – Introduction and Procedures (5/5/2022) – In this session we will look at the formal RSA process and procedures as outlined in the FHWA Road Safety Audit Guidelines. This should give the attendees a good understanding of what an RSA is and how to do it properly.

Session 2 – Common Issues and Challenges (5/12/2022) – This session will look at some of the issues and challenges when proposing or doing RSAs. It will focus on the things that often stand in the way of getting the right results out of an RSA or hinder the RSA process.

Session 3 – Examples and Case Study (5/19/2022) – In this highly interactive session we will look at different examples of things that might be found in an RSA. We will also look at a case study of an RSA that was performed on a section of highway prior to a project and how the RSA findings impacted that project.

These webinars are provided at no cost and will award a certificate of training for attendees requesting Professional Development Hours (PDHs) or a certificate of completion verifying your attendance. Certificates will be awarded only for fully attending each webinar. Each session will award 2.0 PDHs each. A total of 6.0 PDHs can be earned for fully attending all 3 sessions. Space for this webinar is limited, and Florida local agencies are being given first priority!
