Course Overview

This workshop was hosted live by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the University of South Florida on September 15, 2026, and focused on the 2026-27 Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant application. These are Safety Infrastructure Grants, and the session covered the necessary application criteria, provided resources, and offered guidance on creating a strong application for grant funds for Safe Routes to School initiatives.

The FDOT SRTS program is a statewide program that aims to make it safer for more children to walk and bicycle to school. The program strives to enable and encourage children in grades Kindergarten through High School to walk and bike to school. The program also aims to make walking and biking to school safer and more appealing, and to facilitate the planning, development, and implementation of projects that will improve safety in the vicinity of schools.

Eligible Applicants

To be considered for project funding, an entity needs to fill out and submit a grant application. Applicants can be a school or local government agency that will be the maintaining agency responsible for the infrastructure. Completion of this workshop is a requirement of the application process. The workshop will be recorded for those unable to participate live.
