This webinar series is divided into three two-hour webinars designed to provide supervisors and managers with the tools necessary to motivate employees. In this series we will cover what makes agencies successful, how to define worker needs and wants, how to take advantage of those for increased productivity through rewards, how to utilize the “One Minute Manager” approach, and how to improve communications.

Instructor Bio:
Todd Morrison, P.E. is a road safety advocate as a speaker, workshop instructor, and online trainer. For the past twelve years he has worked for numerous Contractors, Local Technical Assistance Programs, Cities, Counties, and DOT’s. He has taught over 500 workshops and trained over 15000 individuals. He retired from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet after serving in the Divisions of Construction, Maintenance and Traffic. At the Cabinet, he worked with environmental, work zone, construction and maintenance concerns as an Environmental Coordinator, Maintenance/Traffic Engineer, and as a Branch Manager for Operations. Recently, Todd served for two years as Kentucky’s Safety Circuit Rider helping local agencies identify low cost improvements to reduce crashes. Todd is an ATSSA certified Traffic Control Supervisor, Flagging Instructor, and Traffic Control Design Specialist.

Part 1 of 3 – Organizational and Individual Needs
In this first session, we will introduce the course objectives, organizational needs, and individual needs. The following topics will be covered: what the organization needs to be successful; the strengths and weaknesses of your organization; what leaders can do on their own to make the organization more successful; how to distinguish between Needs and Wants; establish the relationship between matching of workers’ needs to job activities and improved performance; and how to assess needs and wants.

In this second session, we will cover the following topics: how individuals respond differently to the same reward; how to motivate your crew to exert more effort; how to match individual needs to rewards; identify the factors that influence performance; and the steps to improve performance through encouragement.

Part 3 of 3 – Performance, Communication, and Employee Involvement
In this third session, we will cover the following topics: steps to improve performance through the “One Minute Manager” approach to praising correction; your role as a coach/mentor; employee involvement as a key; how to be a better communicator; and the importance of communication to engagement.
