The Florida LTAP Center presents this 3-Part webinar series on Intersection Safety. Intersections are locations of planned conflict. Wherever there are conflicts, there exists the potential for crashes. This three-part webinar series will examine different types of intersections and their unique operating characteristics. The workshop will also introduce appropriate safety countermeasures that have proven to be successful at the different intersection types.
In this series, participants will learn about different intersection types – including signalized and unsignalized intersections – and the assortment of issues associated with them. Participants will also learn about the various users that need to be accommodated at an intersection. Most importantly, participants will also learn effective safety countermeasures to be applied at intersections and where to find more information on intersection safety treatments.
Part 1 of 3 – Designing & Operating Intersections for Safety (9/7/2023)
This session will give a general overview of intersection safety issues. We will examine the various road user groups and their associated needs. We will discuss targeted treatments for each of the various user groups. We will also be discussing intersection countermeasures to improve safety related to different crash types at intersections.
Part 2 of 3 – Signalized Intersection Safety (9/14/2023)
This session will focus on safety at signalized intersections. We will examine how signal phasing impacts safety. We will also be looking at several effective safety countermeasures designed to improve safety at signalized intersections.
Part 3 of 3 – Unsignalized Intersection Safety (9/21/2023)
This session will focus on safety at unsignalized intersection locations. We will examine how geometric design features impact safety. We will be looking at several effective safety countermeasures designed to improve safety at unsignalized intersections. We will also discuss modern roundabouts.
These webinars are provided at no cost and will award a certificate of training for attendees requesting Professional Development Hours (PDHs) or a certificate of completion verifying your attendance. Certificates will be awarded only for fully attending each webinar. Each session will award 2.0 PDHs each. A total of 6.0 PDHs can be earned for fully attending all 3 sessions. Space for this webinar is limited, and Florida local agencies are being given first priority!
