Transportation Symposium Webinar Series: Failure Projection for Corroding Bridge Post-Tensioning Tendons
February 11 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Failure Projection for Corroding Bridge Post-Tensioning Tendons
Corrosion induced failure of bridge post-tensioning (PT) tendons has become a concern, not only for Florida DOT, but for transportation agencies worldwide. In response to this, a FHWA sponsored research project developed a methodology for projecting such failures given corrosion rate distribution statistics for individual wires and strands. This protocol is reviewed, and example analyses are provided along with insight regarding recently developed technologies for characterizing corrosion state of tendons. Recommendations are made moving forward for PT bridge integrity assurance.
