Safe Routes to School 101

Florida Safe Routes to School for communities that are just getting started or are interested in supporting safe walking and bicycling for youth, this workshop provides an introduction to the Florida Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program. The workshop includes an overview of the benefits of Safe Routes to School, introduction to the 5E’s (engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation) of Safe Routes to School, and discussion of initial steps you can take to build a successful Safe Routes to School Program.
In this webinar, we’ll describe the history and the purpose of Safe Routes to School. We’ll also define and explain the elements of a SRTS program using the 5 E’s. You’ll learn about the benefits of SRTS programs, and how to identify barriers for walking and biking to school barriers. Attendees will also learn the steps involved in creating a SRTS program.
SRTS is a statewide program, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), whose goal is to make it safer for more children to walk and bike to school. This training is being brought to you by FDOT through the Florida Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Center. The Florida LTAP Center provides quality training, technical assistance, & technology transfer to the Florida local transportation workforce.

- Provide the benefits, history, program goals, and elements of a Safe Routes to School program.
This webinar is provided at no cost and will award a certificate to those fully attending and completing the webinar. Professional Development Hours (1.5 PDHs) will be provided to those that request these during registration.
