Road Safety Audits Part 2 of 3 – Common Issues and Challenges

May 12, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Road Safety Audits (RSA) training is divided into a 3-part webinar series. This session, on May 12th, is Part 2 of the 3-part series. This session will look at some of the issues and challenges when proposing or doing RSAs. It will focus on the things that often stand in the way of getting the right results out of an RSA or hinder the RSA process.

A Road Safety Audit (or RSA) is defined as a formal safety performance examination of an existing or future road or intersection by an independent, multidisciplinary team. An RSA qualitatively estimates and reports on potential road safety issues and identifies opportunities for improvements in safety for all road users.

This LTAP training series will cover the FHWA Road Safety Audit Guidelines and point you to resources you can access to learn more about RSAs and the benefits of RSAs. Important things you will learn include the formal RSA process, the need for an independent team, why it needs to be multidisciplinary, and what kinds of things are often found when doing an RSA.
