Introduction to Guardrails

September 24 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

The Florida LTAP Center is pleased to offer this one-hour webinar on guardrails. A guardrail is a safety barrier intended to shield a motorist who has left the roadway. They can make roads safer and lessen the severity of crashes.

Local agencies often get requests from the public to install guardrails at certain locations. However, agencies must be careful in their response to those requests. Depending on the case and the place, guardrails may not be the best solution and should only be used when it is less of a hazard than the item from which the public is being shielded. To satisfy this guidance certain warrants (or reasons) should be met before installing guardrail.

In this webinar, we will cover the warrants to be considered for guardrail installation, how to determine the amount of guardrail needed, general types of end treatments, and how to avoid common installation mistakes.
