The project assessed the application of inductive loops combined with flashing lights to alert drivers to the presence of bicycles along rural roads accessing federal lands. During the IEW we will discuss the results and lessons learned of this pilot including:

  • Site selection and installation
  • Monitor system reliability in detecting bicycles in mixed traffic.
  • Changes to driver speed with warning system.
  • Facility owner perceptions pertaining to the bicycle detection and warning system.
  • Installation, operation, and maintenance requirements.

For project questions, please contact Rebecca Gleason, Research Engineer with Western Transportation Institute, Montana State University at rebecca.gleason1@montana.edu.

We will also hear from FHWA Bicycle Program Coordinator, Darren Buck (darren.buck@dot.gov) on FHWA initiatives, information and available resources related to bicycling and walking.

This training is not being hosted by the Florida LTAP Center. For details about this training, please contact the event organizer directly.
